WaiNot Native nursery is owned and operated by Steve & Steph Carroll.

Having been Dairy farmers in Waikite Valley up until 2018 we decided to sell our Dairy farm and develop a new business interest we had.

We built a WaiNot Native nursery with the following goals:

• growing native plants that have acclimatised to the Central Plateau/Rotorua area.

• providing native plants at a reasonable price for landowners.

• providing riparian plants for landowners suited to our area.

We decided to use the Ellebag system (designed by Ellepot). Ellebag has been used around the world for the past 30 years. It is relatively new in NZ,  but has science behind it providing the following benefits:

• Degradable bags

• Ease of planting with no plastic pots or bags

• Reduced plant shock 

• Reduce plastics out in the environment

• Healthier and faster root development

• Easy sorting and grading in the nursery

• Ease of sorting plants for distribution to customers

• Ensure customers receive healthy plants and exact numbers
