Guide to Plantings

Plants per hectare

  • At 2 metre spacings approx 2500 plants per hectare

  • At 1.75 metre spacings approx 3300 plants per hectare

  • At 1.5 metre spacings - approx 4444 plants per hectare

  • At 1 metre spacings approx 10,000 plants per hectare

Smaller spacings costs more upfront but often achieves faster canopy closure and less long-term weed spend if managed well.

FAQ

What is an Ellebag?

An Ellebag is a degradable plant-growing bag made from compostable fibre. Unlike plastic PB bags or pots, Ellebags are planted directly into the soil, where they naturally break down over time. This encourages strong, straight root growth, reduces transplant shock, and eliminates plastic waste in the field—making it ideal for riparian and restoration planting

Do you supply bulk native plants?

Yes we supply anywhere from 1 plant to 1000's.  That's the beauty of Ellebags we can sort any number required easily.

Can I pre-order plants or grow to order?

Yes to both.

  • Pre-orders are best placed as soon as possible to ensure we can secure plants for you ready that season .

  • For grow to order please request between January and April for the following planting season.
